Complete hardscaping across Edmonton & region.

NorthCrest is a locally owned and operated Edmonton landscape studio specializing in hardscaping across Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Beaumont, Leduc, Spruce Grove, and Fort Saskatchewan.

We take pride in providing professional, architect-led services and craftsmanship for every part of your project — from initial consultation to final walk-through.

The Studio Approach

Structure first — everything else follows.

Hardscape is won or lost underground. Edmonton's frost penetration demands proper excavation depths, geotextile separation, and granular base compacted in lifts — we never shortcut it. Above grade, we work in natural stone, architectural block, and premium pavers, with drainage grading and edge restraint on every single project.

What we offer

Built to last. Designed to elevate.

Walkways & Pathways

Front-entry walks, side yard paths, and garden routes in pavers or natural stone — consistent grade, clean edges, and a base that won't heave.

Stone Steps & Stairs

Natural stone slab and block steps with proper structural support — critical on Edmonton's sloped and walkout lots for safe, beautiful transitions.

Seating & Garden Walls

Low seating walls, planter walls, and borders that define outdoor rooms and add built-in seating around patios and fire features.

Natural Stone & Boulder Work

Armour stone accents, boulder placements, and rock garden compositions — sculptural mass that grounds the landscape design.

Drainage & Grading

Swales, drain tile, catch basins, and surface grading integrated into the hardscape — water moves away from your home, not under your stone.

FAQ

Hardscaping questions, answered.

The most common questions our clients ask. Need more info? Reach out — we're glad to talk.

What exactly counts as hardscaping?+

Everything structural and non-living in the landscape: walkways, steps, patios, walls, borders, boulder work, and drainage. Softscape (planting, sod, trees) is the living layer that goes around it — we design both together.

Why do hardscapes fail in Edmonton?+

Almost always the base. Insufficient excavation depth, no geotextile, and poor compaction lead to heaving and settling after a few freeze-thaw cycles. We excavate to frost-appropriate depths and compact granular base in lifts — that's the difference between 5 years and 30.

Natural stone or manufactured pavers?+

Natural stone (limestone, granite, rundle) offers unmatched character and longevity at a higher price. Manufactured pavers and slabs offer consistent sizing, more colour options, and easier repairs. Most projects combine both — we bring samples to the consultation.

Do you fix existing heaved walkways and steps?+

Yes — we assess whether the existing material can be lifted, the base rebuilt, and the stone re-laid, or whether full replacement makes more sense. Rebuilding on a proper base is often possible and cost-effective.

How do you handle drainage?+

Every project includes drainage planning: surface grading away from the house, drain tile or catch basins where needed, and permeable jointing where appropriate. Water management is designed in, not added later.

What warranty do you offer?+

A 5-year workmanship warranty on all hardscape installations, plus manufacturer warranties on pavers and block (typically 25+ years against structural defects).
