Complete decks across Edmonton & region.

NorthCrest is a locally owned and operated Edmonton landscape studio specializing in decks across Edmonton, St. Albert, Sherwood Park, Beaumont, Leduc, Spruce Grove, and Fort Saskatchewan.

We take pride in providing professional, architect-led services and craftsmanship for every part of your project — from initial consultation to final walk-through.

The Studio Approach

Built on engineered structure, finished like furniture.

Every NorthCrest deck starts below the surface — screw piles or concrete piers rated for Edmonton's frost depth, engineered beam spans, and proper ledger flashing to protect your home. On top, we finish with premium composite from Trex and TimberTech or select hardwoods, hidden fastener systems, and railing details that make the deck feel like an architectural extension of the house.

What we offer

Built to last. Designed to elevate.

Composite Decks

Low-maintenance Trex and TimberTech decking that never needs staining — fade, stain, and scratch resistant with a 25+ year warranty. The most popular choice for Alberta homes.

Multi-Level & Wraparound Decks

Split-level decks with integrated stairs and landings — ideal for walkout basements and sloped Edmonton lots. Clean transitions between levels and outdoor zones.

Railings & Privacy Screens

Glass panel, aluminum, and horizontal slat railing systems, plus cedar privacy screens — details that define the look and comfort of your deck.

Integrated Deck Lighting

Recessed stair lights, post cap lighting, and under-rail LED systems wired during construction — safe, subtle, and beautiful after dark.

FAQ

Decks questions, answered.

The most common questions our clients ask. Need more info? Reach out — we're glad to talk.

Composite or wood — which is better for Edmonton?+

Composite (Trex, TimberTech) costs more upfront but needs virtually zero maintenance and handles freeze-thaw without splintering or rot. Pressure-treated and cedar cost less initially but require staining every 2-3 years. Most of our Edmonton clients choose composite for the long-term value.

Do I need a permit for a deck in Edmonton?+

Decks higher than 0.6 m (2 ft) above grade require a development and building permit in Edmonton. We prepare the drawings and handle the permit process as part of the project.

How long does a deck build take?+

A typical 300-500 sq ft deck takes 1-2 weeks once materials arrive. Multi-level decks with railings and lighting can run 2-4 weeks. We give you an exact schedule with the proposal.

What foundation do you use for decks?+

We use helical screw piles or concrete piers set below Edmonton's frost line to prevent seasonal heaving. Screw piles are our standard — they install in one day and carry an engineering certificate.

What warranty do you offer on decks?+

A 5-year workmanship warranty on the structure and installation, plus manufacturer warranties on decking — up to 25-50 years on premium composite boards.

Can you add a pergola or privacy screen to my deck?+

Absolutely — pergolas, louvered roofs, privacy screens, planters, and built-in benches are commonly integrated into our deck designs. We plan them together so the structure supports everything from day one.
